Hail is a very common factor for us out on the Eastern Plains and we have become very efficient in handling and repairing hail claims on all types of vehicles. We offer paint-less dent repair (PDR) for the more minimal hail dents and conventional repair for the dents that are larger. 90% of hail claims are a combination for PDR and conventional repairs. We are the only area body shop that provides in house paint-less dent repair. Other shops rely on traveling contract workers to perform their PDR so you never know the quality of work that your vehicle will receive.
Hail damage is one of the most deceiving types of damage. It is a visual type of damage versus a disabling type of damage and unfortunately it can cost more to fix hail damage on a vehicle than it would to fix most types of disabling types of damage.
We do like to warn customers of the perils of cashing the insurance check versus repairing the hail damaged vehicle—especially on vehicles that are leased or payments are still being made. One of the biggest reasons is that the insurance company usually never pays the full amount needed to fix the hail damage. The most common reason for this is due to the complexity of assessing the damage. Collision repair is very easy to visualize the damage and note the repairs where as there are numerous factors that are accounted for with hail damage—the size and number of the dents, where they are located and how difficult they are to access, the type of metal the dents are on. It takes using professional PDR (paint-less dent repair) equipment to evaluate the dents which insurance companies do not have access to.
